Poems

Thank God for Capitalism

by Deyva Arthur

I want it.

I must have it.

Throw it away.

Buy another one.

Throw it away.

Eat until I bust,

then supersize it.

Throw it away.

Buy another one.

Assassinate their president

and increase oil production.

Barrels and barrels roll into the ocean.

Children locked in burning factories.

They put together Santa toys,

laughing ho ho ho,

their tears used for glue.

Wall Street investors

steal my house, my credit card,

who I am.

Hollywood, L.A. texts me

what to say, who to love, how to “do it.”

I like blue socks now.

No, I like socks with dots.

No, I like green socks

with a dash not a dot.

Strip the trees

every last one

for the extravaganza

sale on furniture.

Demand is growing,

supply must be now.

Warming the world

with its efficiency.

Fifty percent off

for double the price.

99 percent

occupies the hungry.

Equality is heresy,

never say share.

Free the murderers to

make room for

the f@$%ing C*&$munists.
